The NMLS Federal Registry was created at the direction of federal banking regulators to fulfill the registration requirement of federally chartered or insured institutions and their mortgage loan originators in compliance with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s rules and the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (“SAFE Act”).  The Act requires mortgage loan originators to obtain a unique identifier to increase accountability and tracking of residential mortgage loan originators, enhance consumer protection, reduce fraud in the mortgage loan origination process, and provide consumers with easily accessible information on the background of a mortgage loan originator.

As part of the registration process, mortgage loan originators must furnish to the Registry background information and fingerprints for a background check. A residential mortgage loan originator must also obtain a unique identifier through the Registry that will remain with that loan originator, regardless of changes in employment.

InFirst Bank has an identifying number of 447118, and requires each loan officer to renew their individual identifying number by December 31st of each year.
